Basic Math
There are important steps to follow when multiplying.
Example: 45 × 2=
- 1st- Rewrite the problem vertically with the larger number on the top.
- 2nd - Multiply the ones digit and carry any product that is greater than 10 to the next column. 5 × 2 = 10. You write the 0 and carry the 1 to the tens column. Just like the carrying you did in addition.
- 3rd- Then you multiply 4 × 2 = 8. You have to then add the 1 that was carried. The 8 becomes 9.
- Continue this until all digits have been multiplied adding any number that has been carried.
Another Example: 73 × 4
Multiply the ones digit and carry any product that is greater than 10 to the next column. Continue this until all digits have been multiplied adding any number that has been carried.
Write the 2 and carry the 1 to the next column.
Add the 1. Your answer is 292.
Now let's see if you are getting the idea. Below are a few problems for you to practice. Use the steps discussed to find the products.
